Reimagining science, conservation & storytelling

Green Flash Conservation Science

Like the rare optical phenomenon we are named after, Green Flash Conservation Science seeks to be the scientists and storytellers that spark change and inspire hope.

We blend scientific discovery with compelling storytelling to spotlight how human pressures are impacting vital ecosystems. By drawing on historical data and lived experiences, and immersing ourselves in these ecosystems to understand how they are changing, we produce powerful narratives that raise awareness, foster emotional connection, and inspire collective action to safeguard these beautiful places.

What is a Green Flash?

The green flash is a rare meteorological optical phenomenon most commonly seen out at sea.

Under just the right conditions, when the sun meets the horizon as it rises or sets, the atmosphere can refract & separate the wavelengths of light from the sun, causing the sun to flash green for just a few seconds, before disappearing.

Green flashes have long inspired myths and lore — one says that if you witness a green flash, you will never again go astray in matters of the heart. Another claims it signifies a soul returning to this world from beyond. Still others believe it is a harbinger of fair weather in the days to come.
